For the Fathers

We spent our first father’s day up at the cabin where my Papa’s old friends, Dan and Lou and their twin sons, Max and Eliot, came to visit.  I was very excited waiting for them to arrive!

Papa did his part by mowing the lawn while Mom and I worked on the weeds in the driveway.

When everyone showed up, we feasted in the shade while I studied the leaves on the trees with great intensity and focus.

Everyone had a great time enjoying the sun, playing in the water and walking the land.

Afterwards, Dan, my father and I took turns squawking while Mom brought victuals.

It was a lovely evening had by all!

The Good Life

My folks finally got their act together last week and headed to the family estate in Lanesville.  As my father said, “It’s not much but… well it’s not much.”

Still, playing hillbilly has its charms.  Not least of which is sleeping outside in the summertime.  So good.

Another charm was meeting our neighbor, Roger.  He’s cool so I showed him my fist-eating trick.

And guess who came for dinner?!  Oma Ina, that’s who!  She worked so hard in the herb garden that I gave her a little smile.  That’s my other trick that keeps ’em coming back for more!  (wink wink)

All those tricks can be tiring business and if there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s how to take a break.

But sleeping 23 hours a day isn’t easy — you need serious discipline to end up like this…

Still, when I wake (preferably in the middle of the night while my folks are in deep sleep), I tend to have a lot on my mind.  Profound questions… Onesie or shirt/pants?  Throw up now or wait a little bit?  Scream or wail?  Is that… is that a face?  And who’s that hairy guy next to Mom?

Behind the Curtain

A lot of people ask me how I get so much done in a day. The answer is really quite simple. I have two full grown adults that do my bidding.

It’s kind of like “MasterBlaster” from that crazy Thunderdome movie with Tina Turner. You know… that one.
